Charless Home

The former Home of the Friendless, this building was purchased and added to the National Historic Register in 2015.  In 2016 Roanoke renovated the building into a senior affordable housing community. The original building pre-dates 1850.  A $10 million renovation converted the building, and its three-story newer addition, into 71 affordable apartment units in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of St. Louis. The historic corridors and common spaces were restored to their original condition, while all other elements like mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems were upgraded for efficiency, modern code expectation, and to meet current design standards. The entire project was certified utilizing Enterprise Green Communities standards for existing and new construction.
